Research progress of citrus waste utilization

Abstract  Citrus is one of the most widely cultivated fruit crops at home and abroad. It is rich in essential vitamins, minerals, dietary fiber, and other bioactive substances, such as polyphenols, alkaloids, natural pigments, and terpenoids. With the continuous expansion of the citrus planting area and processing scale, citrus waste in China is also increasing year by year which resulted in environmental pollution. The nutritional value of citrus waste was analyzed, and three ways of resource utilization, value-added utilization and high-value utilization of citrus waste were discussed in this article, to provide a reference for improving the comprehensive utilization rate of citrus waste and developing the potential value of citrus waste.
