Pubication Ethics

Keeping the high ethic consciousness and publication ethics is crucial for every participator in processes of academic research, paper writing and publishing. Food and Fermentation Industries has formulated the following publication ethics guidelines in light of its own actual situation. Authors, reviewers and editors of this journal should follow these guidelines to ensure the originality, scientificity, innovation and practicability of the articles.  


1. Responsibility for Authors

1)  Authors should ensure that the content in the manuscript is true, reliable and in compliance with the relevant rules and policies in China.

2)  When submitting a manuscript, authors must promise that the manuscript has no academic misconduct (such as multiple submissions, overlapping publications, inappropriate authorship, plagiarism, fabrication, false annotations, quoting others' writings without specifying the source, etc.).

3)  The bibliography information should be clearly annotated in the references. All authors must contribute to the work. When authors discover any errors in their own papers, all authors are obliged to promptly notify the journal editor and cooperate with the editor to retract or correct the paper.

4)  Authors should respect the opinions of reviewing experts. If there is any objection, a complaint can be submitted to the editorial office.

5)  With respect to conflicts of interest, authors should declare any conflicts of interest that relate to papers accepted for publication in our journal. 


2. Responsibility for Reviewers

1)    Double-blind peer review processes are conducted for reviewing manuscripts.

2) Reviewers have no conflicts of interest with respect to the research, authors and/or research funders. Reviewers are to review manuscripts scientifically, scrupulously, objectively and fairly, and give a clear opinion on whether the manuscripts meet the public publishing standards.

3)  Reviewers should report clearly in the review comments if misconceptions, intellectual errors, suspected plagiarism or fabrication is found with a manuscript.

4)  Reviewers should inform the editorial office timely if the review cannot be completed on time for any reason.

5)  The reviewed manuscripts should be treated confidentially. Reviewers must not disclose any research content of an unpublished manuscript.


3. Responsibility for Editors

1)  Editors should follow the objective and requirements of the journal, process manuscripts objectively and fairly, and choose excellent articles that are up to the requirements of the journal for publication. 

2)  Editors have complete responsibility and authority to reject/accept an article, and have no conflicts of interest with all manuscripts.

3)   Editors encourage discussion and contention between different academic viewpoints.

4)  Editors use the “CNKI Academic Misconduct Literature Detection System” to screen and check the manuscripts so as to prevent the existence of any potential academic misconduct in the journal. Editors will reject all manuscripts that have evidence of misconduct.

5)  Prior to publication of the paper that has passed the review, editors should sign a copyright transfer agreement with the author, in line with the “Copyright Law of the People’s Republic of China” so as to safeguard the rights of the author and the publisher. 

6)  Once a published paper is confirmed academic misconduct, editors are obligated to withdraw the paper and delete the data in the relevant database, in order to minimize the harmful influence.


4. Identification of Academic Misconduct Papers 
To protect the rights and interests of readers and maintain the quality and reputation of this journal, Food and Fermentation Industries will strictly test and screen papers during the publishing process, implement the rejection system, and seriously deal with papers identified as academic misconduct. The specific detection and identification process and treatment methods are announced as follows:

The journal adopts the "Academic Misconduct Literature Check (AMLC)" to automatically detect the papers, and takes the general library of online publishing of China Academic Journal Network Publishing Database to detect academic misconduct papers, such as plagiarism, forgery, tampering, improper signature, and multiple submission of a manuscript.

1)Scope of papers to be tested
a) All papers recorded or ready for publication by the journal;
b) All papers that readers report being suspected of plagiarism.

2) Identification of academic misconduct papers
The "Academic Misconduct Literature Check" is used to check the duplication rate of the papers. If the duplication rate is 20% or above, the paper and the comparison papers shall be submitted to the reviewer together to determine the nature and form of the paper duplication and put forward suggestions on the identification and treatment of the similarity between the paper and the comparison papers.

Manuscripts involving the following behaviours will be deemed as academic misconduct papers:
A. View Plagiarism
Using the views of others without quotation or explanation and publishing them in your own name shall be defined as plagiarism. Expressions of plagiarism include:
a) Directly use the arguments, opinions, conclusions, etc. in the published literature of others without citation.
b) Paraphrase arguments, opinions, conclusions, etc. of others without changing their original intention and use them without citations.
c) Use others' arguments, opinions, conclusions, etc. by deleting some contents and use them without citation.
d) Split or restructure the arguments, opinions, conclusions, etc. of others and use them without quotation.
e) Add some content to others' arguments, opinions, conclusions, etc. and use them without quotation.
B. Data plagiarism
Using the data in the published literature of others without citation or explanation and publishing them in your own name shall be defined as data plagiarism. The manifestations of data plagiarism include:
a) Directly use data from published literature of others without citation.
b) Use the data in the published literature of others with minor modifications and use them without citation.
c) Use the data in the published literature of others with partial addition or deletion and use them without citation.
d) Change the original order of data in others' published literature and use them without quotation.
e) Change the presentation mode of the data in the published literature of others and use them without citation, such as converting the chart into a text statement, or converting the text statement into a chart.
C. Photo, audio, and video plagiarism
Using pictures, audio, and video from other people's published literature without quotation or explanation and publishing them in your own name shall be defined as plagiarism of pictures, audio, and video. Expressions of plagiarism of pictures, audio, and video include:
a) Directly use the images, audio and video materials in the published literature of others without quotation or explanation.
b) Use the pictures, audio and video in the published literature of others with minor modifications and use them without quotation or explanation.
c) Add some content to the pictures, audio and video in others' published literature and use them without quotation or explanation.
d) Use the pictures, audio and video in the published literature of others with some addition or deletion without quotation or explanation.
e) Use pictures in other people's published literature with some enhancements or weakening and use them without quotation or explanation.
D. Research (experiment) method plagiarism
Using others' original research (experiment) methods without quotation or explanation and publishing them in your own name should be defined as plagiarism of research (experiment) methods. The forms of plagiarism in research (experiment) methods include:
a) Directly use original research (experiment) methods in the published literature of others without quotation or explanation.
b) Revise some non-core elements of original research (experiment) methods in the published literature of others and use them without quotation or explanation.
E. Word Plagiarism
Using words with complete semantics in other people's published literature without quotation and publishing them in your own name should be defined as plagiarism of words. The forms of expression of plagiarism include:
a) Directly use the word list in the published literature of others without quotation.
b) The words in the published literature of others are used in paragraphs. Although citations are made, the words used are not quoted, or the font is not changed, or a specific arrangement is not used for display.
c) Many places use the words in published literature, but only one or several places are cited.
d) Continuously use text expressions from various literature, but only one or several literatures are cited.
e) Reproduce, summarize, and paraphrase the written expressions of words or sentences in the published documents of others without changing their original intention and use them without quoting.
f) Add some words and sentences to the written expressions in the published literature of others and use them without quotation.
g) Delete some words and sentences from other people's published literature and use them without quotation.
F. Overall plagiarism
If the main body of a paper or the main body of a part of a paper excessively quotes or heavily quotes the content of published literature of others, it should be defined as overall plagiarism. The overall forms of plagiarism include:
a) Directly use all or most of the published literature of others.
b) Add some content on the basis of others' published literature and publish it in your name, such as adding some data or adding some new analysis.
c) Delete some content on the basis of others' published literature and publish it in your name, such as deleting some data or some new analysis.
d) Replace the research object in the published literature of others and publish it in your own name.
e) Change the structure and paragraph order of others' published literature and publish it in your own name.
f) Several published literatures of others are spliced into one paper and then published.
G. Plagiarism of unpublished achievements by others
The use of unpublished views, original research (experiment) methods, data, pictures, etc. of others without permission or permission without explanation shall be defined as plagiarism of unpublished achievements of others. The forms of plagiarism of unpublished achievements of others include:
a) Unauthorizedly use others' published but not officially published views, original research (experiment) methods, data, pictures, etc.
b) Obtain permission to use other people's published but not officially published views, original research (experiment) methods, data, pictures, etc. without quotation or explanation in the form of acknowledgement.

5. Treatment of papers identified as academic misconduct
1) In a prudent manner, the editorial department should promptly notify the authors of papers finally identified as academic misconduct, and allow the authors to explain and defend this issue before making a decision.
2) If the paper has been accepted but not officially published, the authors will be notified to directly reject the manuscript during the manuscript processing on the journal website, cancel the qualification for acceptance, and be criticized, educated, and warned.
3) If the paper has been officially published, the accepted qualification should be cancelled, and the author should be ordered to refund the contribution fee. If reputation or other damage is caused to the journal, the journal reserves the right to continue to pursue compensation.
4) If the circumstances are serious, the author's institute and name will be published in the journal at a selected time, as well as a withdrawal notice, and the author's institute and other scientific journals in the field will be notified of the incident.
5) Papers written by the author as the first author, with serious plagiarism and multiple submissions, will not be accepted by this journal within 2 years. 

6. Handling of author's objection
If the author of the paper has any objection to the accreditation and processing results of the journal, the author may submit an appeal letter to the editorial department of the journal within 10 working days from the date of receipt of the notification. The journal will not accept it if it is overdue. The editorial department is responsible for inviting experts to finish a peer-review within 30 working days, making final comments, and notifying the authors of the results.

The above-mentioned measures shall be implemented from the date of promulgation, and the editorial board of Food and Fermentation Industries shall be responsible for the interpretation.
