Screening Sugar Tolerant Yeast Strain for Xylitol Production

Abstract

14 different yeast strains belonging to 4 different genera (Candida, Debaryomyces, Hansenuasl, Trichosporen ) were evaluated for the ability of xylitol production and sugar tolerance under two concentrations of xylose. The result shows the priority of C. tropicalis than other yeast species for xylitol production and sugar tolerance. The best performance was by C.tropicalis As 2. 567, which accumulated 138.7g xylitol/L.
