The immunomodulatory effects of D-lactate on immunosuppressive mice

Abstract

Yogurt has potential benefits in immune regulation, but the underlying substances and mechanisms remain unclear.To investigate the impact of D-lactate in yogurt on immune function, this study established a mouse model of immunosuppression by cyclophosphamide.This study evaluated the immunomodulatory effects of three doses of D-lactate (low:75 mg/kg bw, medium:150 mg/kg bw, high:300 mg/kg bw) on immunosuppressive mice.Results showed that D-lactate at doses of 150 mg/kg bw and 300 mg/kg bw significantly restored the body weight, immune organ indexes, and delayed-type hypersensitivity reactions.Additionally, different doses of D-lactate improved various indicators related to bone marrow suppression to different degrees.These improvements included enhanced bone marrow morphology, restored peripheral blood cell counts (leukocytes and lymphocytes), upregulated immune cell transcription factors (T-bet, GATA3) expression, and increased levels of serum cytokines interleukin IL-2, IL-4, and IgM.In conclusion, D-lactate can improve immune function in immunosuppressive mice induced by cyclophosphamide.
