Abstract

The extraction and saponification of lutein from marigold dried flower grains were investigated. The optimum process conditions were selected as follows: petroleum ether was chosen as extraction solvent, extraction temperature was set at 60℃,extraction process lasted for 6 h,2 times extraction, and the ratio of marigold to extraction solvent was 1:7(g:mL).The results showed that the optimal saponification parameter was: 35% NaOH,at 60℃ for 6h.After the saponification and purification, the purity of free lutein reached to 98.6%.
