Abstract

The batch fermentation for 2,3-butanediol production by Klebsiella pneumoniae CICC 10011 was inves-tigated.The results showed that the optimum conditions for fermentation were 0.10 vvm of air flow,5.8 of pH value. The concentration of target products(2,3-butanediol and acetoin) was 15.76 g/L with a productivity of 1.97 g/(L.h) after 8 hours’batch fermentation under the optimized conditions, corresponding to 32% of yield from glucose. The glucose batch fermentation by Klebsiella pneumoniae CICC 10011 exhibited the sequential synthesis of main products, and acetate formation was earlier than other products formation.Based on the analysis of cell growth and formation of main products, the early formation of acetate is favorable for 2,3-butanediol production. Therefore,it is important to produce adequate acetate as early as possible and maintain long logarithmic growth phase by means of adjusting sub-strate concentration, air flow and pH.
