Recent Taxonomic Developments and Impacts in Reference Strain ATCC 16404

Abstract

As a representative of filamentous fungi,Aspergillus niger ATCC 16404 was cited in various standards including USP.It was reclassified as A.brasiliensis through polyphasic taxonomic approach including phenotypic and genotypic analysis by Jan Houseknecht in 2008.The new taxonomy description was accepted by USP(2010)and Reference Strain Catalogue for Performance Testing Culture Media by WDCM.This change will lead to reclassification of A.niger referred in various standards and modification relevant internal SOP.The history,characters,application in criterion and recent polyphasic taxonomic were introduced.
