Abstract

Sesaminol glucosides (SGs), an important lipid-soluble lignan from Sesamum indicum, possess multiple biological activities and a wide range of pharmacological effects. In recent years, extensive research on SGs has been conducted. This paper focuseS on the biological activities of SGs and summarized the latest research advancements in eight aspects, including anti-oxidation, anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, inhibition of COVID-19, cardiovascular protection, prevention of obesity, neuroprotection, and anti-skin aging. Analysis of the existing studies reveals that much research on the physiological functions of SGs is still at the in vitro cell model or animal model stage and that achieving clinical application and industrial product development is still a long way off. With the latest developments in modern medical technology and industrial biotechnology, promoting research on clinical pharmacology mechanisms, exploring novel physiological functions, and improving product research and development show promise for future SGs research.
