Effects of 1-methylcyclopropene and ultraviolet-C treatment on postharvest storage quality and physiological activity of Lentinus edodes

Abstract

To delay the decline of the quality of Lentinus edodes during storage, the effects of 8 mg/L 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP), 3 kJ/m2 ultraviolet-C (UV-C), and the combination of 8 mg/L1-MCP and 3 kJ/m2 UV-C on the post-harvest retain freshness of L. edodes that stored at 4 ℃ for 9 days were studied. Results showed that the contents of polysaccharides, proteins, free amino acids, total polyphenols, flavonoids, and ergosterol of L. edodes that through separate 1-MCP and UV-C treatment were higher than the control group in different storage times. Moreover, the respiratory intensity, ethylene release, and the total number of colonies were reduced, and the totalantioxidant capacity and Na+K+-ATP enzyme activity were improved. After the combination of 1-MCP and UV-C, the contents of polysaccharides, proteins, free amino acids, total polyphenols, flavonoids, and ergosterol significantly increased compared with 1-MCP, UV-C, and control group, which effectively reduced the respiratory intensity, ethylene release, and total number of colonies, and greatly improved the T-AOC and Na+K+-ATP enzyme activity. On the whole, 1-MCP and UV-C combination had the best effect on the retained freshness of L. edodes, followed by 1-MCP and UV-C treatment. Results showed that the combination of 1-MCP and UV-C could effectively delay the degradation of the quality of L. edodes, which was more conducive to the retained freshness of L. edodes. This study provides a certain theoretical basis and reference value for the preservation, development, and utilization of L. edodes.
