Abstract

Long-term strenuous exercise and high-intensity training will temporarily reduce the immune function of athletes, resulting in exercise-induced immunosuppression. As a safe nutritional supplement, synbiotics are increasingly used in sports. Studies have shown that supplementation with synbiotics can improve immunity, maintain intestinal flora homeostasis and intestinal barrier integrity, and reduce the incidence and duration of upper respiratory tract infections in athletes. The present article summarized the causes of exercise-induced immunosuppression, the effect, mechanism, and existing problems of synbiotics in improving the immunity of athletes and provided a reference for further research in the future.
